World Heritage Missions – San Miguel de Velasco, Bolivia

San Miguel de Velasco, the fifth mission in the World Heritage Site established by the Jesuits Fr. Felipe Suarez and Fr. Francisco Hervás in 1721.

This temple called “San Miguel Arcangel”was built in 1748 and it is considered one the most important and beautiful temples of the Chiquitania.

The entire temple is decorated with those intricate drawings.

When I arrived to the church there was noone, I was able to walk and admired every part of this temple.

The inside felt very cool and while walking it felt like a museum, I am not a religious person but I felt a bit overwhelmed and touched by the fate of the people that kept this place in the state that it was.

The town was nice, it had electricity and all the amenities of a small town.
