Morocco – Medina of Fez – Tenneries

Medina of Fez a World Heritage Site, describing it as “one of the most extensive and best conserved historic towns of the Arab-Muslim world.” It was the first site in Morocco to be granted this status.

The tanneries are packed with the round stone wells filled with dye or white liquids for softening the hides. The leather goods produced in the tanneries are exported around the world.

The smell around the tanneries was really intense. Thankfully the people that organize the visit on the terraces give you a mint plant to smell.

The historical medina of Fez is such an amazing and overwhelming place.  To move around the city you need a guide or download a map. I prefered using my phone, which worked great, I was able to stop an see what I wanted.

Vendors and guides where really intense, at one point if feel a bit like harassment, because they will follow you even after saying “NO – thank you”, “No- gracias”, “Non, merci”.
