For our labor day weekend we went to Harpswell Maine.
Is a peninsula called Harpswell Neck, that has 3 large islands connected by bridges.
Sebascodegan Island (locally known as Great Island), Orr’s Island, and Bailey Island. Ninety-five smaller islands are within Harpswell’s municipal borders.
At the back of the property there were dense forest areas. I was able to walk around and take photographs at some insects and plants.
At night there were no lights near by so we could see the stars. The weather was lovely, I always look like I am cold but the temperature was fantastic.
There was no need for a firepit, the tiki torches helped to keep the mosquitos away.
We had a dance party night, Ben had a music list and added lights to the easy-up and played around with lights. we also enjoyed two movie nights.
Bailey’s island Bridge –
Is a historic bridge in the town of Harpswell.
Using granite slabs from nearby quarries the town built a crib bridge, similar in design to a bridge that had been observed in Scotland.
The granite slabs were sufficiently heavy to withstand the buffeting of wind and wave and the open cribbing or cellular construction permitted the tide to ebb and flow freely without increasing the normal tidal current to any appreciable degree.
Giant Stairs –
This is a short walk on Bailey’s island, is very beautiful, rocks and waves crashing.
However, the stairs were not that impressive, without the plaque I would have never guess they were there. But never the less, it was a really nice walk.
We ate well, the weather was great and the space that we had was wonderful, overall it was a successful labor day weekend.
