Aguas Calientes Project – Robore, Bolivia

“Aguas Calientes” is a river in Robore. The project was to visit a piece of land  thats was around 32 Km away from the main city, Robore, see its potential for a eco-resort, we had to experience the temperature, the environment and give a conclusion.

The average temperature is 95 F, the lowest it gets its around 74 F.  Around the area there are many hot springs  that go around 100 F to 120 F, but the interesting thing is that the hot springs are parts of a river.  Where we were staying the river’s temperature was  around 95 F, so there was not alot of a difference between been dry or not.

The camp only had a gasoline generator that was only use at night.

The main problem that we experience in the area were the mosquitos, there is a specie that is smaller than the regular mosquito, the “manta banca”. The insect did not have any issue to travel across the net that we installed above our bed.  Every bite will leave us a purple bruise. Regular insect repellant was of little use, we discovered that the best solution was to  mixed it with gasoline.

There was no refrigerator so everything was “fresh”. For protein we had a cow meat. We ate the animal like the old times, we will eat all the interiors first, start drying the meat and eat it.  The group ate the entire cow.

The killing of the cow was very strong experience for me (it was also pregnant and we got to see the cow fetus), but the fact that we used the entire cow it made me feel less guilty, like its death wasn’t a waste.

That same morning we had liver for breakfast, for lunch we had intestines  and that night for dinner we had cow’s brain soup. I can’t say that I liked it or disliked it but it’s not something that I would ask for.

Some field trips around the area. Below there is an image of Santiago de Chiquito’s church.

Below Santuario de Robore , we climbed part of the rock behind, it was an scary feeling, there is an easier path at the back.

There are some other hiking places around the are that are just amazing, the air feels hot, everything is green and humid.
