Kbal Spean – Angkor, Cambodia

Kbal Spean, also known as the river of the 1000 lingas consists of a series of stone rock relief carvings in sandstone, in the the river bed and banks.

The river bed cuts through the sandstone formations, and the many architectural sculptures of Hindu mythology , this way the water gets sanctified.

The carvings were made in the 11th century, the lingas and other carvins  represent a galaxy the gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva or Maheswara.

Unfortunately, my visit was during the rain season, so the river carried a lot of water. The Lingas were not exposed completely.

Before arriving to the river, I was able to visit clift and admired the landscape and jungle.
