The Hassan II Mosque is the second largest mosque in Africa and one of the largest mosques in the world.<\/p>\n

Completed in 1993, it was designed by\u00a0Michel Pinseau\u00a0under the guidance of King\u00a0Hassan II\u00a0and built by Moroccan artisans from all over the kingdom. The minaret is 60 stories high, topped by a\u00a0laser, the light from which is directed towards\u00a0Mecca.<\/p>\n

The walls are made of handcrafted marble, and the roof is retractable.<\/p>\n

All of the\u00a0granite,\u00a0plaster,\u00a0marble,\u00a0wood\u00a0and other materials used in the construction, were extracted from around Morocco, with the exception of some Italian white granite\u00a0columns\u00a0and 56 glass\u00a0chandeliers.<\/p>\n
