Spite houses are very rare, the whole purpose is to irritate someone. In general they very rare because of all the rules and regulations in construction and the cost.

The story goes like this… In the 1920 a couple was finalizing its divorce and as part of the divorce agreement, the wife required her husband to build an exact replica of their family home for her, however she didn’t specify exactly where.

The spiteful husband build the house at the edge of town, in the Great Marsh with saltwater plumbing.

The house was sold in 2011 to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and it is consider by people of the town as an icon or an eyesore, the preservation of the house is still under discussion.
